Crystalline Minerals, 2020-23

Def. Clay mineral: any of a group of important hydrous aluminum silicates with a layer (sheetlike) structure and very small particle size. They may contain significant amounts of iron, alkali metals, or alkaline earths.
These works are produced in a slow and conscious ritualistic way. Hannah unearths clumps of clay found in the land, then washes and filters these lumps of earth; refining the clay through old scraps of material – pillow cases, tea towels, curtains. The clay used for these works include samples collected in Devon, Oxford, Wakelyns agroecology farm and Standstedt in North Germany.
Different sights produce clay of varying chemical composition and mineral content. Each clay deposit upon the photographic surface produces a reaction, forming tones, textures and hues dependant in its unique chemical balance.
